Today's Sunshine

Today out walking we met a dog, so I clicked and rewarded a few times, then turned around and walked back the way we came. Monster turned around a few times and looked back at the dog following us, and was rewarded for this too. They were walking faster than us though, and started to get too close for comfort, so at the first chance we turned away onto a crossing street. Where we met a dog. Quickly rewarded for that as well, and started looking around for a way out. Which was when I discovered that two dogs were now coming up behind us on the new street!

I told her we should stay home, but does she listen?

 Waited for the first dog (the fast walker) to cross the street we were on, luckily they crossed before the two dogs caught up or the second dog closed in, and we managed to slip by and go back to the first street. Phew! You confused? Good, then you know how I felt.

Monster did pull on the leash towards the other dogs, and his hackles were slightly up, but he kept checking back with me (microglances, but still), and he never used his voice or acted out! And this was a big challenge, we were boxed in with three dogs moving towards us, with the closest dog getting about twenty feet from us.

Not a perfect reaction, sure, but once upon a time Monster would have tried to kill them, me, and/or himself...
